Students writing NECO examination in one of private schools in Ughelli have been driven home by the principal of the school for not paying the sum of N20, 000 for examination malpractice in Ughelli North local government area of Delta State.

This is just a parents of the affected students have put in place arrangements to petition all the commissioners for education and the Delta State Governor, Sen Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa.

It was gathered that the private school, name withheld located at the heartbeat of the Ughelli North was filled with activities as the proprietor of the school was busy chasing students from the examination hall over their inability to cough out the N20,000.

When newsmen visited the said school at about 9.am last Wednesday, the proprietor, a retired principal from a notable school in Ughelli was seen with a plain white paper with names of those who have paid and not paid.

Narrating his ordeal, a parent who spoke to newsmen said, “My daughter decided not to go for the exams because of the seriousness that was attached to the payment of the 20,000 for the alleged malpractice.

“I don’t have that kind of money for malpractice and even if I have the cash, I will not pay because during our time nothing like that was done. And besides that, we do pay for extra moral lessons, and practicals or is the school saying saying that they are not competent? He queried.

When visited, the proprietor of the school who hails from Ughelli South was seen with sheet of paper with student names marked down. Some were allowed into the school exam hall while those yet to pay the alleged malpractice money were separated.

Denying the allegations the proprietor who retired as a principal in 2012 said I am not aware of any collection of that nature.

He said, “Look I finished from Federal Government College Warri, former governor of Delta State Uduaghan was a product of that school and he was two years behind me then, and when I was leaving, former Lagos State governor Ambode was coming in and during our time, I wrote the exam without any hitches and I got my grades before proceeding to the University with my grades.

On his part, the principal of the school, Mr. Oyovwi said, “Instead of you to come and negotiate with us, you are here threatening brimstone.

“You cannot come from nowhere to dictates how we operates in our schools, you can go an write whatever you want to write.”
